04 October 2011: Erlang Solutions launches Erlang e-learning: the first of its kind

04 October 2011 - Erlang Solutions have announced the launch of their new Erlang e-learning platform. The e-learning platform is the first of its kind for the Erlang language and incorporates features that are unique to any e-learning platform. The e-learning offering allows people to be trained who, due to temporal, geographical or economical constraints, are not able to attend traditional face-to-face instruction.

Erlang Solutions have developed a system that delivers at a distance, the same high-quality interactive experience that is delivered face-to-face.   Stuart Whitfield, Erlang Solutions CEO explains, "I'm delighted that we have today launched our first e-learning course, Erlang Express. 15 August 2011: Erlang Solutions and Massive Solutions Partner to Bring Supercomputing to the Mass Market

15^th August 2011 – Erlang Solutions (ESL), the driver behind the worldwide uptake of the Erlang development environment, today announced its partnership with Massive Solutions, the frontier engineering company tackling problems of high-load, scalability and manageability for high-performance and cloud computing. The two companies will now work together on the targeted roll-out of a Virtual Supercomputer offering (VSC), for high end users who need innovative high-performance cloud computing .

The primary objective of VSC is to provide owners of HPC infrastructure the means to either improve access to this valuable resource internally or to time share with partners and customers. This will revolutionise how businesses and individuals can access supercomputing power with a ready-made, fully functional analogue of a physical supercomputer – one that is comprehensively equipped with software and requires no specific knowledge of software installation or setup procedures. Erlang Solutions Awarded Grants in Excess of €800,000 for Multi-core Computing Research

Research will help develop and shape the multi-core frameworks of the future

London, 26^th July 2011 - Erlang Solutions Limited has been awarded two grants, totalling €800,000, for research into the use of the Erlang programming language in multi-core computing. The grants are funded by the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for Research and Technological Development, the EU's main instrument for funding research in Europe and are part of €6.9 million granted to two consortiums whose partners consist of European companies and universities. Under its Cooperation Programme, research support is provided to international cooperation projects across the European Union and beyond.

Erlang Solutions and its partners submitted proposals for the ParaPhrase and RELEASE projects in answer to FP7’s call for proposals on the subject of “Alternative Paths to Components and Systems” in Computing, in its Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) research category. The objective is to achieve breakthroughs in the transition to multi-core architectures across the whole computing spectrum – embedded, general-purpose and high-performance computing. This transition affects the underlying hardware, the system software (compilers, tools, OS, etc.) and the programming paradigms.

Titled “Parallel Patterns for Adaptive Heterogeneous Multi-core Systems”, the ParaPhrase project addresses a key technical problem that currently limits the use of integrated multi-core parallel systems, despite its potential for both cheap, scalable high-performance computing and for significant reductions in power consumption. The problem is to maintain portable performance across multiple different CPU/GPU combinations. The ParaPhrase project will address this by developing and deploying new high-level design patterns for parallel applications that allow alternative parallel implementations and that can be initially mapped and subsequently re-mapped to the available hardware.

Kevin Hammond, Professor of Computer Science at the University of St Andrews and the ParaPhrase project coordinator said: “It’s great to be working with Erlang Solutions and its outstanding team of multi-core experts. The company is a leading commercial provider of Erlang-related research, and will expose our research results to tens of thousands of Erlang programmers around the world. Multi-core is a key area where functional language technologies can make a major impact on the real world. ParaPhrase will take a new pattern-based approach, using advanced software refactoring to build parallel programs from sets of software components that will help programmers ‘think in parallel’.”

For the RELEASE project, research will be conducted into “A High-level Paradigm for Reliable Large-scale Server Software”. The aim is to scale the radical concurrency-oriented programming paradigm to build reliable general-purpose software, such as server-based systems, on massively parallel machines. Concurrency-oriented programming is distinctive, as it is built on highly-scalable lightweight processes which ‘share nothing’, in contrast to a conventional language that must typically use operating system processes.

Erlang Solutions will lead on designing and engineering the scalable infrastructure and leverage its events expertise to lead on dissemination and exploitation through conferences, publications, training and through the Erlang opensource community. As both a developer of Erlang applications and a training and consultancy provider, it is in a unique position to carry out detailed evaluation of the work, embed its findings in its own development lifecycle and then provide training and promote appropriate techniques to its clients.

London, 4^th July 2011 – Erlang Solutions Ltd, the world’s largest Erlang services and support company, has been awarded the Academic/Business Collaboration Award at the University of Kent’s ICE (Innovation, Creativity, Enterprise) Awards in conjunction with Professor Simon Thompson of the School of Computing.

Erlang Solutions and Professor Simon Thompson received the Award for the most successful Academic/Business Collaboration. The project has improved the speed and quality of the Agile Test Driven method in use. In addition it created an interactive refactoring tool and a reusable Web Framework, that allows the company to take products to market more quickly and cheaply through developing and deploying reusable software components.

24 March 2011: Erlang Solutions partners with Travelping to provide next generation AAA Solutions to telecom operators

23 March 2011 – Erlang Solutions (ESL), the driver behind the worldwide uptake of the Erlang development environment, today announced its partnership with Travelping, a Germany based software vendor offering solutions for network operators to build, manage and charge their broadband services securely and efficiently. Together, the two companies will offer operators highly scalable, robust and distributed, control plane solutions to build AAA and session control systems for their next generation networks (NGN).

Through this partnership Travelping has adopted Erlang, the programming language, as a key technology to develop the AAA application server running RADIUS and DIAMETER applications. Both companies will extend this offering by creating new DIAMETER application based on the 3gpp and ETSI standards. This application will be fully supported through the ESL Erlang Distribution offering built by ESL’s powerful Continuous Integration System which is due to be released as a hosted offering soon.

3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the next-generation network beyond 3G. In addition to enabling fixed to mobile migrations of Internet applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP), video streaming, music downloading, mobile TV and many others, LTE networks will also provide the capacity to support in demand for connectivity from a new generation of consumer devices adapted to those new mobile applications.

19 January 2011: Stuart Whitfield Appointed as New CEO of Erlang Solutions

Erlang Solutions Ltd, the world’s largest specialist Erlang services and support company, today announced the appointment of Stuart Whitfield as its new Chief Executive Officer, with immediate effect. Mr Whitfield brings a wealth of business experience and corporate knowledge along with key strategic planning and management experience. Mr Whitfield’s key responsibility will be the day to day management of the company, including operations, regional offices and finances, ensuring Erlang Solutions meets its objectives and continues its rapid expansion. Mr Whitfield has been a part-time, non-executive director of Erlang Solutions in 2010, during which time the company doubled its turnover, whilst maintaining its profit margins.

In a streamlining of the management structure, co-founders Francesco Cesarini and Marcus Taylor will become Technical Director and Commercial Director respectively. Francesco will focus on solution development and delivery, building and managing technology teams, oversee R&D effort and provide technical leadership within the company and towards the community. Marcus will be responsible for defining, developing and executing the commercial strategy including managing a team that will address sales, marketing and product management.
