Take ProTest Tools Survey and win Erlang Programming book!
It's been two years since ProTest - an EU funded research project on property based
testing and test driven development - was established. We would like
to sum it up and therefore we need YOUR feedback! Have you heard
about Exago, McErlang, Onviso, PULSE, QuickCheck or Wrangler? Are
you using any of these tools? By answering these and other questions, you will help influence the research and dissemination strategies for the next two years. Filling the survey in should not
take longer than 15 minutes. Its results will be presented at Erlang
conferences and workshops and made public on the ProTest website. What's more, all participants are entered into a FREE PRIZE DRAW to win one each of three 'Erlang Programming' books by Francesco Cesarini and Simon Thompson. So
please, by Monday 14th December take our survey! It is available here
in the traditional web-based form, you can also take it via IM -
just add: survey@bot.surveys.erlang-consulting.com to your
Jabber buddies and enter "start". If you have any queries,
do not hesitate to contact Aniko on aniko@erlang-consulting.com.
We
appreciate your time and willingness to help us!

Tutorial: Practical Erlang Programming by Francesco Cesarini
On Wednesday, 3rd February 2010 in London Francesco Cesarini, author of 'Erlang Programming' also founder of Erlang Training and Consulting Ltd. will give a tutorial on Practical Erlang Programming.
The tutorial covers the basic, sequential and concurrent aspects of the Erlang programming language. You will learn the basics of how to read, write and structure Erlang programmes. The target audience is software developers and engineers with an interest in server side applications and massively concurrent systems.
The goal of the tutorial is a hands-on introduction to the theory and concepts behind sequential and concurrent Erlang programming, explaining the Erlang syntax, semantics and concurrency model. We conclude with an overview of the error handling mechanisms used to build fault tolerant systems with five nines availability.
The tutorial will take place in the Caesar Room, Imperial Hotel, Russell Square, London WC1B 5BB. To learn more about the tutorial, please go here and if you want to book it click here.
Ulf Wiger at the IGT2009
At the World Summit of Cloud Computing 2009 (IGT), which will take place in Israel from 2nd-3th December 2009, Ulf Wiger (CTO of Erlang Training and Consulting) will give a talk on Erlang's Journey to the Clouds and a tutorial Erlang workshop. Let's meet at the IGT2009!
Talk Abstract: Erlang was invented in the 90s to address rapid development of non-stop scalable telecoms systems. Initial requirements included massive concurrency, distribution transparency, in-service upgrades, plug-and-play expansion and high programmer productivity. A rapidly growing Open Source community is now using Erlang for scalable web services, messaging systems and cloud computing services. In this talk we will look at how Erlang is breaking out of the clusters of last century and entering today's cloud computing environments.
Tutorial Abstract: In this workshop, we will try out some of the basic techniques for building, dynamically scaling and debugging a distributed Erlang-based system. We will also take a look at some of the more popular Erlang-based Cloud components.

Erlang Web 1.4 has been released!
Last month the latest official release of the Erlang Web framework took place. The latest 1.4 version is full of new features and enhancements, like integration with EWGI, new template language support: ErlyDTL, Erlang Web Test Suite application bundled, multiple level request dictionary support.
Apart from the above, there are also some changes worth mentioning: * new wpart introduced: wpart:comment * embedding default values in wparts from templates (patch submitted by Elena Bobrova) * top-down template inclusion feature * experimental ejabberd-flavoured e_hook introduced * upgraded to Yaws 1.85
Erlang Web 1.4 can be easily downloaded as a tarball from its official website and checked out from the bitbucket repository. The documentation can be found on Erlang Web's wiki page.
We do encourage everyone to tryout Erlang Web 1.4, send us comments, contribute and enjoy the coding!
