Erlang News

The TIOBE programming community index measures the popularity of programming languages mainly based on data from search engines.

"This month not much changed in the index. Objective-C and Go are still scoring all time highs, while staying close to each other. There are 4 programming languages that have a realistic chance of entering the top 20 next month. These are educational language Scratch, functional language Erlang and JVM languages Scala and JavaFX Script."

Read more about it on the TIOBE website.

Erlang Courses

Our next scheduled Erlang courses are:

Krakow:

San Francisco:

We have received a number of requests for Erlang courses this July in Sydney, Australia, but in order to run them we need a few more delegates, so if you are interested, let us know asap.

The next Erlang/OTP version (R13B04) will be released on February 24

This is the first official release after Erlang/OTP was published on Github Nov 20 last year, and a new process for submitting patches
was introduced. The first patch was submitted on Nov 24.

The process has been a success, and OTP R13B04 includes 51 patches from 32 different people in the Open Source community. Another four patches were included after being modified by the OTP team, and only two were dropped because they were found to be of insufficient quality. Given the OTP's maturity and reputation for excellent quality, these are impressive numbers that reflect well on both the OTP team and the Erlang Community.

Klarna Programming Competition

Klarna have launched a national programming contest to find the best programmers in Sweden. The top prize is an Employment contract in Klarna's well-renowned Development department! Second prize is an iPhone and third prize a HTC Hero (Google Android). The prizes will also be given out for the fastest correct answer to each of the problems. Solutions have to be submitted before the 7th of March.

The problems to solve and more information and rules can be found here.
