Epicenter 2009: Erlang and its OTP middleware (Dublin, Ireland)
Francesco Cesarini (the founder and CSO of Erlang Training and Consulting) will give a talk on Erlang and its OTP middleware at the Epicenter 2009 conference which will be held on 26th August 2009 in Dublin, Ireland.

Abstract: This talk will introduce the open source programming language Erlang and its OTP middleware. It will describe how to do more with less, giving examples on the syntax and constructs which allow Erlang programs to generally be 4 – 10 times shorter than their counterparts in Java, C and C++ while achieving 99,999% availability. Erlang’s no shared data approach makes it a perfect candidate for linear scalability on multi-core computers.

The talk will be backed with benchmarks and case studies of commercial Erlang systems on multi-core machines, describing where the research and effort is currently being put to bring the language to the next level. While originally invented to handle the next generation of Telecom switches, Erlang has been used successfully in a much wider range of sectors including banking, e-commerce, instant messaging, web applications and could computing. We will provide examples not only of the Ericsson success stories, but also look at systems developed by companies such as Facebook, Amazon, Yahoo and the Engine Yard, all of which have found Erlang to be a perfect fit for their market segments.

We will conclude by presenting the ever growing Erlang community. This includes open source projects which are making a difference, the websites, blogs, conferences and user groups which are today growing exponentially. If you have heard about Erlang and want to learn more, this is the talk for you!
